FAQ
What is lampworking? TOP
The art of lampworking or ‘flameworking’ is the process of heating and working glass in a flame. Centuries ago, oil lamps were used, which is where the term ‘lampworking’ comes from. Today, a torch is used, providing more heat and much easier control.
Colored glass rods are melted with a torch and wound around a stainless steel rod called a mandrel. The glass is manipulated into a round bead, and then various decorations are added. When the desired effect is achieved, the bead is placed in a kiln to be annealed or strengthened for a period of time, determined by the size of the bead. Do you make all the lampwork beads in your jewelry? TOP
All the lampwork beads in the jewelry I design are my own creations. If at any time I use someones beads other than my own, I will acknowledge and give credit to the artist.
While I do my absolute best to represent the colors in my beads as accurately as possible, please bear in mind that colors sometimes differ due to computer monitors. Is the silver used in your jewelry sterling? TOP
I use sterling silver all my jewelry unless otherwise specified. The only items in which I don't normally use sterling silver, are key rings and fobs, and bookmarks. In these items I use silver toned and/or silver plated findings unless otherwise specified. What size bracelet do I order? TOP
If you are unsure of your bracelet size, please measure your wrist, using a tape measure. For adults, add ½” to 1”, depending on how you prefer your bracelets to fit. If you have a favorite bracelet and like how it fits, measure that bracelet end to end.
For infants and children, add ½”. A lobster claw clasp and ‘Room to Grow’ extension chain is used on most infants and childrens bracelets unless a different clasp is requested. The ‘Room to Grow’ extension gives an additional ½" -1" to your child’s bracelet.
If your purchase is to be a gift, you might consider a bracelet design with an extension chain for a definite fit.
Please take the time to measure carefully. How do I care for my jewelry? TOP
My jewelry consists of my own handmade lampwork beads, the finest sterling silver, Swarovski crystals and glass pearls, freshwater pearls and various semi-precious stones.
Because sterling silver will tarnish, be careful not to wear your jewelry purchase while swimming, showering or any activity which could cause it to get wet. Even with the best of care, some tarnishing is possible. To keep this to a minimum, keep your jewelry in a sealed plastic bag when you are not wearing it. When needed, I recommend polishing with a ‘Sunshine’ cloth. Do not use jewelry cleaner.
While all of my lampwork beads have been kiln annealed for strength and long lasting beauty, please keep in mind they are made of glass. If handled improperly, they could crack or break. Please handle with care, as they are not indestructible. Should they become broken, please discontinue use. What forms of payment do you accept? TOP
